Pre-marriage
Having worked closely with couples in crisis, it has also become important to me to know the value of working with clients in Pre-Marriage Counselling.
Learning important relationship skills at the beginning of that journey or commitment allows each person in a couple to transform their relationship.
We’ll discuss your shared intentions and understanding of each other, as well as your personal needs, hopes and desires. This will assist in finding a mutual understanding and agreement on what is important for you both – to avoid what can often be emotional setbacks and common pitfalls in relationships down the track.
Areas of work:
· Communication
· Values, morals, and principals
· Decision making
· Beliefs and values
· Sex and intimacy
· Finances
· Conflict resolution
· Children and parents
· Family relationship/ dynamics
· Religious or cultural differences
Pre-marriage counselling allows you to explore each other’s expectations:
• What are each other’s plans for the future, how does sharing a life together look and feel?
• Do we have different styles in relating to each other?
• Do we understand how family or past experiences could influence how we view a marriage?
Working collaboratively to consider all the intricacies of marriage allows couples to grow and feel confident in their ability to overcome future challenges.
Pre-marriage counselling brings so much joy to my world when I have the privilege to see couples shine and want to show up and be better versions of themselves for each other. It is a wonderful experience that couples deeply benefit from.
